About Me
Hi! My name is Lisa Schatz and I have been a board certified lactation consultant since 2001. My
interest in breastfeeding began almost fifteen years ago when I had difficulty nursing the first of my
five children. A friend took me to a La Leche League meeting and within a short time I was running
the group. My desire to learn more so that I could help other mothers and their babies compelled me
to commence formal studies to become a lactation consultant. For several years, after becoming
certified, I ran a practice in conjunction with a pediatrician and another lactation consultant. These
days I work from home, counseling and running a weekly "Mommy and Me" group. Stay-at-home
moms who are looking for company, a cup of tea, a piece of (healthy) cake, and a safe, non-
judgmental place to get advice and guidance are welcomed.
Parenting Philosophy:
At the "BABY BUFFET" we believe in reading your babyҳ cues. Babies are first and foremost people. Each baby has its own distinct personality, stamped upon it from the moment it emerges into this world. Some babies eat quickly but often, and some eat slowly but over a longer period of time. Neither the same rigid schedule nor the same set of rules can be applied across the board. And sometimes, like grownups, babies may become cranky when tired, hungry or just having a bad hair day.
Always remember that raising a baby is an opportunity to enrich your life, not a never-ending bundle of complications. Accept that from the moment your baby is born, your life will never be the same. Do not frustrate yourself by holding onto your old routines. Welcome this precious little gift into your life and realize that, just like us, it has needs. Just like us, it deserves respect. This will free you to accept your baby and love it. If instead of fighting this life change you go with the flow than you can maximize your energy by loving your baby unconditionally and learning to live with it in harmony.
Being a parent during these first few years of your baby's life is not easy, but it is well worth it. The first time your baby holds onto your hand or shirt while nursing or stops to look up at you while breastfeeding, and smiles at you with that milky grin, you know why you became a mom.
